Experience Intro
Detail
Join us on this class day trip to the highlights of Kamakura and Enoshima! 【Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū + Komachi Street】 Founded in 1063, Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū is Kamakura's most important Shinto shrine. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the patron god of the Minamoto family and of the samurai in general, and is the venue of many of many important festivals. Stroll the Komachi Street, where you can find everything from boutique fashion stores to souvenir gift shops and, of course, countless cafes, restaurants, cake shops, and bakeries. 【Hase-dera Temple】 Founded in 736, this ancient temple is sometimes called “Hase-Kannon,” for the main deity here is the Eleven-faced Kannon, the statue of which is 9.18 meters tall—the largest wood-carved Buddha in Japan. The area has been a sacred place since ancient times, and was described in Japanese literatures like the “Tale of Genji” and the “Myriad Leaves Collection.” Hase Temple is also called the “Sacred Temple of flowers,” as various flowers and plants can be enjoyed throughout the year—hydrangea, cherries, lilies, sword lilies, bush clover, Chinese bellflower, plum, narcissus etc. 【Kōtoku-in & Daibutsu (Great Buddha)】 The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha. With a height of 11.4 meters, it is the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, and is one of the country’s most famous icons. It is believed that the construction of the Great Buddha began in 1252. Up to present, the statue essentially retains its original form, and as such, it is an invaluable example of Japanese historical Buddhist art. 【Kamakurakōkōmae Station】 A must-visit for fans of Slam Dunk! This railroad crossing at Kamakurakōkōmae Station is famous for its scene in the opening song of the Japanese hit anime Slam Dunk. Kamakurakoko High School is the model for Ryonan High School in the cartoon, and it is here that the main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi, stood and waited for the train to pass by. 【Enoshima】 Enoshima is a small island off the Shōnan coast of Kanagawa known for the Enoshima Shrine, with statues honoring Benten, goddess of good fortune and wealth. Here you can also find the Enospa hot springs and the 19th-century, English-style Samuel Cocking Garden with its Sea Candle lighthouse. During your two-hour free time, why not have some of the freshest seafood in the region. One of the famous dishes is called shirasu-don, small raw fish on a bowl of rice. ◆Tour Overview: *Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū + Komachi Street *Hase-dera Temple (the Flower Temple) *Kōtoku-in & Daibutsu (Great Buddha) *Kamakurakōkōmae Station *Enoshima ◆Please Note: *This package does not include lunch.
